Boat Trips on the East Coast: Anthony Quinn Bay, Ladiko and the Caves – Swim Stops, Snorkelling and All-Inclusive Boats Compared

The short answer: if you want the bays and a swim, a three-hour cruise is the right length, and what you pay for is mainly the drinks. Most of the short trips call at the same stretch of coast south of Faliraki; the difference between the €18.40 version and the €55 one is above all the open bar. The longer, six-hour boats add lunch and more stops.
The places
Anthony Quinn Bay is on the east coast, about 4 km south of Faliraki and some 15 to 17 km from Rhodes Town. Ladiko Beach is just before it. By land, a stairway leads from the road down to a narrow strip of golden sand and pebbles between large rocks, and the seabed is rocky, so water shoes help. The water is clear and good for snorkelling, but the rocky entry makes it less suited to very small children than a sandy beach. In July and August it gets busy by late morning.
Getting there by land is easy enough: about 20 minutes by car from Rhodes Town, with free parking above the beach according to a travel guide. That is the cheap way to see the bay. A boat adds the caves and the other coves that you cannot reach from the road.
The short cruises
The Anthony Quinn, Ladiko and caves all-inclusive cruise costs €55 per person, 3 hours, 4.8 stars from 1,863 reviews. It stops at three bays for swimming and snorkelling, with an open bar including frozen strawberry cocktails, beer, wine and soft drinks. It is the one we would point most people towards: the most reviews of the short trips and a rating that is as high as any.
The Anthony Quinn Bay and sea caves snorkelling cruise is €55, 2.5 hours, 4.8 stars from 519 reviews, and mentions hidden caves and a chance of seeing dolphins. A chance is not a promise.
At the low end, the swimming cruise to Anthony Quinn and Kallithea Springs is €18.40 for 3 hours, with masks provided and a bar on board, 4.6 stars from 1,068 reviews. The bar is there, but drinks are not described as included, so you pay for them. From Faliraki, the boat trip to the Afantou caves, Anthony Quinn and Ladiko is €44.10 for 3 hours, 4.6 stars from 1,082 reviews. From near Lindos, the all-inclusive swim and snorkel cruise from Vlicha Bay is €49.50 for 3 hours and visits Navarone Bay, St Paul’s Bay and a cave seen from the water; 4.7 stars from 1,050 reviews. A south-east coast cruise from Lindos is €55.25 for 6 hours with swims at Navarone Bay, the Kamares pirate caves, Charaki and Agathi.
The longer all-inclusive boats
If you want a day on the water, three boats do it with food. The Aphrodite Duchess all-inclusive cruise is €65 for 6 hours, with unlimited beer, wine and soft drinks, a Greek BBQ, a hot dog hour and waffles, three bays and a walk off the plank into the sea: 4.7 stars from 2,930 reviews. The all-inclusive catamaran cruise is €60 for 6 hours, with a buffet lunch and unlimited drinks, 4.8 stars from 2,538 reviews. The caique with snorkelling, gourmet buffet and open bar is €72.25 for 6 hours, a traditional Greek boat, 4.7 stars from 628 reviews.
The catamaran is sold as an escape from the crowded tourist boats. Whether a given boat feels crowded depends on the day and the departure, and the listing does not give passenger numbers.
All the bay and cave trips are on the Anthony Quinn Bay cruises page, from €18.40.
The honest part
Unlimited drinks on a boat, in the sun, are a good reason to pick the three-hour trip rather than the six-hour one, and a good reason to pace yourself. If you do not drink, an all-inclusive price buys you less than it seems to, and the €18.40 cruise or a visit by land gets you into the same water.
The caves and the dolphins are the least predictable part of the trip, and the listings describe them as things you may see, not things you will. The sea decides, and sailings can be changed when it is rough, so check the cancellation terms on the booking page and do not leave the trip for the last day.
For a longer excursion, Symi and the sunset cruises are the other two boat days.
